Data collection audit for mobile applications
Background / Issues
An ecommerce brand specializing in ready-to-wear clothing has an Android & iOS mobile application whose internal workings were difficult for the marketing and analytics teams to understand.
The development environments (production app, staging, debugging, etc.) were poorly documented, the sequence of events not very easy to understand, and the use of analytics data was becoming uncertain.
Goals
• Comprehensive mapping of events and screens tracked on the application.
• Identify any discrepancies between specs and tracking reality, as well as discrepancies between App and Web.
• Transfer best practices to the team to better manage environments (QA, debug, prod).
Our 3-step approach
Marking plan app
Implementation of a complete “page views/events/parameters sent” mapping.
Quality assurance
Functional testing on all available versions of the app (debug, production, etc.).
Skills transfer
Training and transmission to the customer’s team to gain autonomy for future developments.
• 100% of key paths tested (navigation, purchase tunnel, product sheets, wishlist, etc.).
• Clear recommendations on all critical points (poorly separated environments, overload of unnecessary parameters and events, etc.).
Results
• Skills training for in-house teams on mobile debugging tools.
• Improved reliability of analyzed data (better decision-making).
• Reduced time spent on testing for future upgrades.
