The last six months at Optimal Ways have been a thrilling adventure filled with learning, development, and practical experience. I had the exceptional chance to delve deeply into the technical aspects of digital analytics as a Junior Digital Analytics Consultant, collaborating on significant projects with seasoned experts.

In addition to strengthening my interest in data analytics, this internship has given me the technical know-how and self-assurance I need to achieve my future academic and professional goals, which include specializing in data analytics and artificial intelligence at EDHEC.

 

The Start of My Adventure

 

I was a newcomer to the complex field of digital analytics when I started working at Optimal Ways. Although the technical complexity of this sector was both daunting and fascinating, Optimal Ways’ organized atmosphere made sure I got all the tools and assistance to succeed. I joined the technical team, and from the beginning, I felt empowered to take on challenging tasks since I was surrounded by professionals who were eager to mentor and advise me. I was able to establish a strong basis for my future goals because of this exposure.

 

Key Projects and Achievements

 

• Ensuring Accuracy- Tagging Plans and Site Mapping: A cornerstone of my responsibilities involved maintaining the quality and accuracy of website tagging plans, which serve as the foundation for analytics tags, consent management systems, and customer data platforms (CDPs). I ensured that the site mapping accurately aligned with these tagging plans, enabling reliable data collection and analysis. By focusing on this, I helped establish a seamless flow of accurate data helping in driving informed decisions.
• Automating Tagging Plan Verification with ObservePoint: One of my most impactful contributions was the automation of tagging plan verification for one of our clients using ObservePoint. I replaced the earlier semi-automated process with a fully automated workflow, dramatically reducing quality control time while enhancing the precision of tag monitoring. This initiative ensured that key user interactions, such as consent management, product searches, cart additions, and checkout funnel steps, were tracked flawlessly on their regional websites. It not only improved efficiency but also upheld the integrity of the analytics processes.
• Implementing a Consent Management Platform: I played a vital role in the implementation and configuration of a Consent Management Platform (CMP), ensuring compliance with global data privacy regulations such as GDPR while maintaining a user-friendly experience. This project required careful attention to technical details and close collaboration with teams to balance regulatory requirements with user satisfaction.
• Post-Implementation Validation: Ensuring the accuracy of data collection was paramount. I conducted thorough validations of analytics tags post-implementation, meticulously testing their deployment across websites. This process guaranteed precise data reporting for dashboards, helping to avoid discrepancies and ensuring the reliability of client analytics systems.
• Audits and Data Visualization: I conducted comprehensive data quality audits for clients; identifying and addressing discrepancies to deliver consistent, high-quality data. To support these audits, I made use of Google Sheets and Looker Studio, turning raw data into actionable insights. These dashboards became essential tools for clients, enabling them to make data-driven decisions with confidence and clarity.

 

Diving Deeper into Technical Tools – Tag Management and Analytics

 

• Streamlining Tag Management Processes: As part of my internship, I delved into configuring and debugging advanced tags using Tealium IQ and Google Tag Manager. This involved working with JavaScript and HTML to build robust tracking systems for client websites, integrating media tags like Actito and Antvoice, to monitor crucial events interactions, ensuring precise data collection and meeting the requirements.
• Optimizing Analytics with Cutting-Edge Tools: In the realm of analytics, I leveraged Google Analytics to analyze user behavior and website performance, providing actionable insights for client decision-making. Additionally, I created web scans in ObservePoint for clients. These scans validated tags and streamlined the quality control process, ensuring consistent data reliability across diverse platforms.
• Driving Results with Key Achievements: Through the implementation and optimization of advanced tracking and analytics systems, I enhanced data accuracy and improved operational workflows. My efforts not only bolstered user experience by addressing critical pain points but also contributed to greater efficiency and reliability in data-driven strategies.

 

A Culture of Learning and Growth

 

Beyond the technical aspects, Optimal Ways provided an environment that fostered holistic growth. One of the most memorable experiences was SCABE training. This engaging and interactive session helped me uncover strengths I wasn’t previously aware of, giving me a clearer sense of my personal and professional capabilities. What’s more, this training provided me with tools to articulate these strengths in future professional settings. Another highlight was seminars and team events, including an exciting session in Belgium and another in Berthen, a charming French countryside location. These gatherings seamlessly blended learning with leisure, offering insights from industry experts while building camaraderie with my colleagues.

 

Building a Strong Foundation for the Future

 

This internship has been pivotal in shaping my aspirations and preparing me for future challenges. Working in the technical team gave me exposure to real-world problem-solving, client interactions, and cutting-edge tools. I realized that mastering technical skills at this stage of my career is crucial, as it allows me to contribute effectively to my team and support my future managers in driving innovative solutions. The constant support, feedback, and guidance from my mentors created an environment where I could thrive. Whether it was brainstorming solutions to technical problems or learning new skills through hands-on experience, every interaction added value to my journey.

Looking back, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunities I had during this internship. The hands-on experience, combined with mentorship and exposure to diverse projects, has significantly boosted my confidence. The skills I have gained—ranging from technical proficiency to teamwork and adaptability—will undoubtedly serve me well in both my professional and academic pursuits. This internship has also kept alive in me my lifelong curiosity to keep learning and growing.

From tackling technical issues for leading clients to discovering my personal strengths through training and team events, every moment has been a learning experience.
